About 1988 - the inverted the folks and the external springs were re-placed with normal looking inverted front folks.
You will have to do some research on the specific years but I would expect if you have the 5 speed transmission that your engine has been replaced at somepoint in the past.
There should be a metal plate rivitted to the steering head between the tripple trees - with the serial number and the date of manufacture. If you are reading a number stamped into the frame that is only the frame serial number -
I am not sure but the frame and engine serial numbers I think should match - this might be a clue if the engine has been replaced
